It does not matter how long you’ve been a fan, how many songs you like, albums you have, facts you know about the band members…

For starters, I highly doubt that the guys sit around thinking about how much more they love the fans who have all the albums vs the fans who only like one song. While I can’t speak for the band, I’m still pretty fuckin’ sure they don’t care how long you’ve liked them or how many songs you know as long as you like them at all. What I imagine they would potentially care about is how often we spend tearing each other apart over who’s the “better fan”.

News flash: fandom does not depend on how long you’ve been in it or how much more you know about something. Fandom is supposed to be a positive thing that brings people together rather than us beating each other up with our words. So let’s all take our fuckin’ chill pills and calm the fuck down. I’m sick of seeing all this ‘I’m better than you’ bullshit all over my dash.

i know this is a long post and it’s probably tl;dr for most people but i’m going to do it anyway.  because this really needs to stop.  judging other music fans for any reason needs to just stop.  i couldn’t even comprehend the amount of hate i got for opening my mouth and stating that i wasn’t overly fond of lupercalia.  and most of it was shit like this.  i’m not going to attack the op and i’m not going to get into the long subject of how much afi has changed through the years but i just want to point out that music lovers should unite in general instead of trying to tear each other down.  i’ve never understood the need that some people have to try to prove they are bigger or better fans.  what even is the point? a fan is a fan period.  if you let go of all your judgement, and instead replaced it with legitimate conversations, legitimate debates about music.  instead of proclaiming that someone isn’t a fan of afi if they didn’t like crash love, ask them why they didn’t like it.  point out the reasons why you did.  i have had some of the most interesting conversations that way.

I mean, it’s one thing to not like it, but you can atleast respect it. You can’t be a fan if you don’t respect the other albums. It just made me mad. Do you understand?

Being elitist asshats over what age another fan is, is equally as bad as any other assahattery you were criticizing this person for. Know what? There’s no such thing as a “True Fan”… and ANYONE attempting to tell someone they aren’t one (because of their age, whether they like a record or song, whether they own “enough” merch or know the band’s birthdays and favorite colors, or whatever it is you think meets the bar you’ve set) is being disgustingly elitist and condescending.

 I hope everyone can just forget that I freaking posted this, I don’t like knowing that people are getting mad at me. I’m sorry, I was just mad for second. All that really matters, like I said above, is that we all have one thing in common: We love AFI! :)

Why does it always seems like AFI fans try and make it a contest as to who is a better fan than another. It doesn’t matter how long you have been listening to them or how many of their CD’s you own or how many times you have seen them. Some people were really young when they first came out and some people can’t afford to spend a bunch of money on getting CD’s or travel to go and see them. What matters is that their music touches you. I feel like this is the main reason why I am not friends with most people that like AFI because once I tell them I adore them and what they have done for me they turn it into a competition as to try and prove that they are a better fan than you. I wish those type of fans would realize that they don’t have to be that way. Just accept every AFI fan because there is a reason why they like AFI, you have no right to judge them or try and one up them.

And personally, I don’t like CL because, even though it’s AFI, it didn’t get through me the way their other albums have. I don’t listen to it ever; only one or two songs every once in a while.

And just because I don’t like ONE album it doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. I have a tattoo, I cry listening to some songs and feel my heart clench with others. I feel proud of them. They are my favorite band EVER, and not liking one album doesn’t make me any less of a fan. So STFU.

Really, if you like them, you like them, if you don’t, you don’t, if you like their new stuff, good for you, if you like their old stuff, good for you. I, personally, love everything that AFI has put out, but if you only like Miss Murder, who am I to think it’s stupid? You have your own goddamn taste.
