The Leaving Song Pt. 2, I Heard A Voice.
Before I’d acquired this DVD, I used to watch the videos on YouTube, thinking, “Wow, one day I’ll be in that crowd, watching this band.” After I bought the DVD, I watched it on the TV thinking, “One day it’ll be my turn to be in the crowd, at a show, watching these guys sing and play their hearts out in front of me.”
I was looking through old worksheets/books/whatever that I’d scribbled random things in, and some included “Things to do before I die: Go to an AFI show” or some variant of that. Every time I listened to their albums or songs, I get the thought of wanting to see them live.
When they played KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Concert in 2008, I was stoked because it was the first time that I’d be seeing them “live” (on the webcast obviously), albeit a tiny low bandwith video. You should have seen me headbanging in front of the computer screen.
My friends probably get tired of hearing me marvel about AFI and how I love them and the music they make, as well as hoping to see them live someday.
Originally, I wasn’t going to go to Soundwave because it would have been a festival set, and I felt that I could live with not seeing the other bands on the lineup, so I was aiming to attend a show during a headlining tour. In the end I bought a ticket to Soundwave anyway because I decided that I didn’t want to wait.
Next, I wasn’t going to go to the Luna Park show because it was on a Tuesday, and it’d mean skipping 3 days of school as opposed to 1. But I decided that it’d be stupid to miss the opportunity, so I got a ticket to that.
Now when I listen to AFI, I remember the amazing times I had seeing them live, and hope to see them again in the future. You know the feeling you get when you’re in that crowd? It’s a great feeling. I hope every AFI fan gets to see AFI live and have an amazing experience.
Dear AFI, thank you for your music and thank you for existing, forever.
Happy I Heard A Voice day!

Silver & Cold - AFI
When I was twelve I remember my sister used to listen to all this music. & I liked it but I had no freaking idea who the bands were. I never really tried to find new music or anything on my own, it was just whatever I liked & the stuff my sister listened to.
I always used to hear my sister listening to AFI & I liked their songs but I had no fucking idea who they were. Then one day I heard her listening to Girl’s Not Grey & I asked who it was. She got all excited when I said I liked the song. Then she made me listen to the album. Seriously she actually forced me to sit down & listen to the whole album. & my favourite was Silver & Cold. Because it was perfect at the time, with all the shit going on in my life.
I immediately loved AFI & I fucking loved that song Silver & Cold. I remember I used to listen to it all the time, especially at school, on repeat. I loved it so much, the lyrics are perfect & the video clip makes it even better.
